The Minnesota TRiO Association received a $1000 grant from the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) to engage alumni in advocacy for services for low income, first generation students. This project will take the Minnesota TRiO legislative reception to the next level of advocacy for TRiO-eligible students by providing an avenue for alumni from all eight State Districts to meet with legislators and discuss the impactful efforts of TRiO projects across the state highlighting the need to continue to support and increase funding of such projects.

The Alumni Task Force will meet with alumni attendees after the legislative reception to debrief and share overall experiences of the event, to create sixty second video testimonials on the impact of TRiO and their thoughts on the TRiO Alumni Association, and to provide feedback to the Task Force on further ways to reach out and engage TRiO alumni.

The Minnesota TRiO Legislation and Education Committee and Legislative Future Work Group will organize and facilitate the Legislative Reception along with the Alumni Task Force who will coordinate efforts to conduct the Alumni Engagement Follow-up Session.
