Dear Educators and Friends of TRiO:
You are invited to participate as a presenter in the annual Minnesota TRiO Day event on Saturday, February 20, 2010 to be held at Minnesota State University, Mankato. This year’s theme is “Race to Success – Turning Roadblocks into Opportunities”.
TRiO Day is a student leadership conference for TRiO participants in the state of MN. The conference is an opportunity for students throughout MN to come together to celebrate their shared experience of participation in TRiO programs and their commitment to realizing their dream of a higher education degree. TRiO programs are assisted in their efforts to support students by the U.S. Department of Education which provides federal funding for these educational opportunity programs that serve students from families with limited income and students who would be the first in their family to earn a four-year college degree.
The majority of participants at the conference will be high school students, although participants will range from 7th grade through college. Attending workshops and presentations from community members, businesses, and agencies that focus on professional careers, college and financial aid is key to providing a meaningful experience for participants. Students also benefit from the inspirational messages and encouragement that presenters can provide.
We are seeking presenters who share our commitment to assisting youth and adults as they attempt to sort through the information and overcome the hurdles they encounter to making an informed decision about their futures. Attached is a list of workshop concepts that have been presented in the past. We encourage you to present on similar or related topics and to create your presentation with the conference theme in mind.
If you are interested in participating in a TRiO Day workshop session, please return the Call for Proposals form to Margaret Hesser by Friday, January 29, 2010. We will provide more specific details about session times in an information packet in early February. Please pass this on to others who might be interested in presenting. This information and form are also available online at MNTRIO.Org.
